Everyone has at least once in their life had an itchy throat. The problem is not confined to adults only because it can occur at any age. Itching of the throat is often a symptom of allergies and even an allergy attack. An allergic reaction is usually caused by food or inhalant.

In most cases, itchy rhymes can be easily relieved with over-the-counter (OTC) medications and home remedies

Almost all people experience itchy nose irritation at least once in their life.

Itchy throat is sometimes a sign of allergies and is also an early warning of a viral or bacterial illness. If you suspect that your throat is more itchy than usual, or if you notice unusual discharge, it is best to see your doctor right away. Here are some tips that can help you deal with itchy throat discomfort:

If you have a sore throat or fever, take an over-the-counter cough and cold medicine. Often, these medications relieve symptoms, as do over-the-counter pain relievers such as aspirin. Avoid taking aspirin regularly if you are allergic to aspirin and its derivatives, as they can damage your lung membranes.

Use over-the-counter antiperspirants for itchy throat. You can find foods containing aluminum chloride to keep you cool on hot summer days. Be sure to keep the product out of your eyes, as aluminum can irritate them.

If you don't have a cotton swab or mouthwash, use a tissue instead. Dry your throat gently with a tissue and rinse with water. A damp towel will help absorb excess saliva in your mouth. If you need something to drink, drink plain unsweetened water.

You can soak a cotton ball in warm salted water and soak it in a glass of warm water, then gently press down on your throat for a few minutes. This will help clear up any build-up of dry mucus that can cause itchy eyes.

To remove any remaining salt in your throat, simply take two teaspoons of hot water and dissolve them in one teaspoon of salt, then rinse with warm water. This solution is known as a "cold compress".

There are many natural herbal remedies available for the treatment of itchy throat. They are easy and safe to use, and have been used for hundreds of years to soothe irritated or itchy sinuses and to help treat ear infections, toothaches, eczema, and other respiratory problems.

Iodine is another herb that can help ease the discomfort associated with an itchy throat. Take two teaspoons of this compound and dissolve it in a glass of water and then rinse it out with warm water. Another remedy for this condition is to chew iodized salt.

Fenugreek seeds can be used in place of aspirin to treat an itchy throat. These seeds are available at health food stores and pharmacies.

Applying a mixture of one tablespoon of apple vinegar and one-half cup of warm water to the throat once a day will help to reduce the symptoms of itchy throat. Mix this solution with olive oil and warm water and then massage onto the throat. This treatment should be repeated every couple of hours until the symptoms disappear. You can also combine apple cider vinegar with a cup of water and gargle with it.

Drinking plenty of water, either by drinking it or applying it to the throat, will help you get relief from an itchy throat. It will flush the mucous buildup that may be causing the itchy throat.
